Our History

The Lake Kickapoo Volunteer Fire Department, always in the same location on FM 368 South, was started back in 1980 with money scraped together with praises and thanks going to the early community firemen, their wives and the local community. Determined to create a debt-free fire department these first firemen and their wives, the Lady's Auxiliary, held bake sales, garage sales and fund drives to cobble together enough money to purchase the early building and one old fire truck. After the strenuous task of getting the early Fire Department started, several of the early firemen were sent to Texas A&M to fire school for training and to begin to hone their fire fighting skills.

One of the few remnants of the early days of the Lake Kickapoo Volunteer Fire Dept. is an old quilt also made by members of the Lady's Auxiliary back in June of 1990, which was displayed on the fire department's walls for many years, is still around today and in the possession of Jim Davis, one of the original founding firefighters and at one time a Fire Chief. This old quilt was one of the only ways we were able to identify a list of the dedicated original members of this department.
